In Loving Memory: Blue

Team Tanzie, our hearts are heavy as we share some incredibly sad news. On April 24, we said a final goodbye to a very special soul. Blue passed away after an extremely short and unexpected battle with an aggressive form of cancer. This loss hits us very hard…sweet "Blueberry" wasn’t just a rescue; he was a cornerstone of our story.
A Zest for Life
Anyone who has followed Tanzie for even a short time knows the iconic pair: Blue and Ice, the Bosnian huskies. Though we lost sweet Ice in 2022, Blue and his family opened their hearts and home to another Bosnian rescue, Dzeki, in May of that same year.
Blue was the definition of a “best boy.” Despite the hardships he faced on the streets and in the shelters of Bosnia, he arrived in the U.S. with nothing but a zest for life and a heart full of play. He was undeniably handsome—a true "ladies' man" who captivated everyone he met at the dog park with his charm and striking looks. He loved steak and eggs for breakfast, his monthly BarkBox, and of course, play dates on the beach with Tanzie and crew!
A Special History

Blue holds a very dear place in our organization's history. After their long journey from Bosnia, he and Ice were fostered by Tanzie’s family for several months. We will never forget the sound of Blue and Ice howling alongside the original pack—Tanzie, Bella, Benji, and later, Maya and Odie. Four years ago, he stepped into the role of big brother, welcoming Dzeki into the family and showing him the ropes of retired street dog life.
It Takes a Village
Blue’s life was a testament to the power of a community coming together. It truly takes a village to change a life, and we want to extend our deepest gratitude to:
His dedicated rescuers in Bosnia who kept him safe.
The donors who funded his flight and medical care.
The flight partners who escorted Blue and Ice across the ocean.
The volunteers who drove and housed them on the long trek from Boston to Virginia.
His forever family, Jen and Ashley, for giving him a life filled with unconditional love he so truly deserved.
We find comfort imagining Blue now—free from pain, catching every ball, and running through endless fields with his sister Ice and the fur friends who went before him. Because of wonderful, giving people like you, we can continue to #SaveBosnianStrays like Blue. There is so much more to say about this captivating boy; you can read more about his journey from Bosnia in the rescue story and featured article below.
Run free, sweet boy. You are so loved, and you will be so deeply missed. 🐾🌈
